Comedy sens-Asian Kate Rigg graduated from the prestigious Juilliard school of drama before turning her passion for clever quips, bizarre characters and kooky jokes into a hilarious life as a stand up comic and character comedian.
Kate’s stand-up career has taken her from coast to coast with her edgy off the wall takes on pop culture, politics and multiculturalism and her ability to chat to almost anyone about anything. She has been invited to the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival, The Vancouver Comedy Festival, The Perth International Festival, The Marshalls Women in Comedy Festival, and performed stand up PBS, LOGO, Showtime, Comedy Central, CTV, Vh1, CBC and City TV. After serving on a panel on Race in America she was invited to be the comedic correspondent for seasons 8 and 9 of the Dr. Phil show, with numerous appearances and hilarious man on the street interviews. She has done voices for Fox’s family guy, recurred on Law and Order and hosted numerous events– from the hallowed halls of the Kennedy Center, LA Grand Performances and International festivals –all the way to back room bars in towns across North America. She starred in and executive produced “The Naughty Show” Bad Girls of Comedy DVD released on Eagle Rock’s Comedy Label, and also was the creator executive producer of the hit shows “Dance Your Ass Off” on Oxygen TV and “Gonzo Girlz” on RIPE TV, and the wacky comedy adventure show “Cache Craze” currently airing on YTV.
As a comedy sketch artist she created the multi-character shows “Kate’s Chink-O-Rama: featuring the chinkorama dancers” and “Birth of a nASIAN” which premiered in New York and played to sold out audiences around the country, including special headline performances at the Comedy Central Theater in LA and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.
A typical show involves current event jokes, crazy song parodies from her sketch shows, observations about Asian-American life. She has been featured alongside comedy luminaries like George Lopez, Dave Chappelle, Lisa Lampanelli, Mo’Nique, Margaret Cho, Lea Delaria, Jim Gaffigan and many others. She can tailor special shows, themes and jokes for colleges, Women, LGBT, all-Asian audiences, conferences, events, and other special interest groups.
Hosting and Special Events
In addition to doing stand-up comedy shows Kate has been a dynamic host or MC for many Special Events Nationally. She Was the go-to host for the hit show “Sing-Along-Sound-Of Music” at the Kennedy Center, The Ziegfield Theater and venues around the country, is a regular fundraiser/festival host for many special interest groups and has expertise in women’s issues, A/PI Cultural trends, multiculturalism, and youth culture which have made her a much-requested speaker at events such as NYU’s Asian American Center’s 30th Anniversary of Maxine Hong Kingston’s Woman Warrior conference, The Heritage of Pride Awards Dinner, NYC’s Pride Rally, The Angel Island Benefit, The Smithsonian Institute’s A/PI Heritage Month Series, The National Association of Women In Performance’s Conference, Women’s Week at UNC Chapel Hill and countless colleges and school events.
